Need a Text Editor?

If you need a Windows based text editor then might I suggest Notepad++.

I’ve been using for my Perl script editing and it’s really useful. It understands the syntax and keywords of a whole range of languages, thus making things like finding matching brackets and braces in source code a snap. As a Perl editor it also recognizes keywords and the various variable types, highlighting each with different colors. The XML editor provided tag matching and highlighting as well.

It’s also extensible with plugins should you need such a capability. It’s not an IDE so there is no type ahead or prompting for function and variable names and structures but overall, as a general purpose text editor, it’s pretty impressive.

And of course, it’s free!
