Decisions, decisions, decisions …
Trying to decide if should invest more time in my data set list demo by adding job tracking to submitted jobs, add a complete SDSF function on a new tab or do do something totally different.
A couple of thoughts I have had in the ‘totally different’ area are:
Graphical JCL builder.
Drop data sets (from data set list result dialogs) onto pre built blocks of JCL (job steps) and use some sort of flow chart type GUI to do the conditional stuff. I’d need to handle things like temporary data sets, program parms and the like as well.
Graphically define control block and data layouts and the processing. I think the layout bit is pretty easy, defining the processing not so much! The trick is to avoid creating yet another ‘procedural’ language. I want to be able to SEE the logic from the diagram instead of having to read and understand code in order know what is going on.
